Although PEI is Canada’s smallest province, it lays claim to
many significant achievements. Known as the “Birthplace of Canada”
as a result of the Charlottetown Conference in 1864 that laid the
foundation for the eventual Confederation, PEI was the first province
to provide high-speed internet service to every one of its residents,
schools and public libraries. It is the largest supplier of seed potatoes
in North America. Its connection to the mainland, The Confederation
Bridge, is the world’s longest multi-span bridge over ice-covered
waters. PEI is also home to the world’s largest mussel aquaculture
operations and to Lucy Maud Montgomery, author of perhaps the longest
running best-seller of all time, Anne of Green Gables. Not too bad
for an island of only 139,000 people.
Come visit PEI for world-class golf courses, miles of dune-ringed
deserted beaches, incredible natural beauty, world-famous lobster
suppers, hiking, biking and some of the warmest smiles you’ll
ever see.
